When you arrive
History and symptoms
The Optometrist will bring you into the consulting room and discuss your reason for coming, whether it is a routine check up or if you have a concern that needs addressed. The Optometrist will then ask some routine questions to understand your visual needs and requirements. If you currently wear spectacles, please bring them with you so that the Optometrist can assess your current visual correction.
Muscle Assessments
These are a series of tests designed to check the balance of the muscles of your eyes, making sure they are working together correctly.
Pupil Reflexes
The iris’ of your eyes work like a camera shutter, letting in the correct amount of light to obtain the best quality image. The pupil reflex test checks that your pupils do this correctly.
Opthalmoscopy
The health of your eyes is checked at this stage. The Optometrist examines the eyes from front to back using a special lens and a microscope or a hand held instrument called an ophthalmascope. We will also take a picture of the back of your eye and show you various parts of your eyes such as the nerves and, if you are not squeamish, the blood vessels.
